Toccata for clarinet and piano was my first foray into combining classical and jazz influenced stylings in one composition. Traditionally, “toccatas” were written for keyboard or string instruments, with the primary purpose to show the dexterity of the musician. Here I not only try to show that in the nimble passage work for the clarinet but in the necessity to balance two styles of music, (classical and Latin-jazz) at once.
