PQ " The ...'project'... represents a wide-ranging collection of rhythmic traditions: from the African rhythms and fiddle techniques that propel Trevor Weston’s Juba, to the iconic grooves of James Brown which inspired Vijay Iyer’s Dig The Say, to the beat breaks that permeate Daniel Bernard Roumain’s Hip-Hop Dances and Prayers. Each of these rhythmic worlds serves as a venue for PUBLIQuartet’s genre-defying improvisations, which reflect on multiple traditions of American movement as an expression of bodily autonomy and history keeping.
